Masport Plug and Play Systems

Masport Plug & Play Systems – Get Your Vacuum Truck Back to Work in Less Than a Day

If you’ve got an older vacuum truck, chances are the pump isn’t the only thing showing its age.

Have a look underneath the truck and around the pump.

There’s a good chance you’ll find old, rusty pipework, tired fittings, leaking joints and components that have seen better days.

Replacing the vacuum pump is one thing. Trying to replace all the old pipework and build a new pump system around it can turn into a much bigger job.

That’s where Masport Plug & Play systems make a lot of sense.

Instead of replacing just the pump, you can replace the old pump system with a pre-assembled Masport package that incorporates the pump, drive, oil reservoir, filtration, scrubber/separator, relief valves and other key components.

And because the system arrives largely assembled, installation can be completed in less than a day in many applications.

That’s a big difference when the truck is earning money every day it’s on the road.

The Problem With Old Vacuum Truck Pipework
A vacuum truck can have a lot of pipework between the tank and the pump.
Over time, that pipework is exposed to:

  • Moisture
  • Waste
  • Corrosion
  • Vibration
  • Heat
  • Pressure
  • Vacuum
  • Repeated loading and unloading

Eventually, the pipework and fittings can become just as much of a problem as the pump. You can install a brand-new vacuum pump and still have an unreliable system if the old pipework is leaking or restricted. And trying to reuse 10- or 20-year-old rusty pipework around a new pump doesn’t always make much sense.

Why put a new pump onto an old system?
That’s one of the reasons we like the Masport Plug & Play approach.
You can replace the old pump system rather than simply replacing the pump.

What Is a Masport Plug & Play System?

Masport’s Plug & Play systems are pre-assembled pump packages designed to make installation easier.
The package combines the Masport vacuum/pressure pump with a heavy-duty mounting base, drive system and supporting components such as the scrubber and separator.
Depending on the model, drive options include gearbox or hydraulic drive.

The systems are designed around making installation, operation and maintenance easier, while giving operators better access to the components they need to maintain. So instead of starting with a bare pump and building everything around it, you start with a complete package.

Less Than a Day to Install

This is one of the biggest advantages for a working vacuum truck. Time off the road costs money.
If you’re rebuilding a pump system piece by piece, the job can quickly turn into:

  1. Remove the old pump
  2. Remove old pipework
  3. Cut and fabricate new pipe
  4. Modify brackets
  5. Fit valves
  6. Install filters
  7. Install the separator
  8. Connect the oil system
  9. Align the drive
  10. Test the system
  11. Fix the things that don’t quite fit

Before you know it, the truck has been sitting in the workshop for several days. The Masport Plug & Play approach significantly simplifies this process.
With the old system removed and the correct Masport package selected, we can often have the new system installed and the truck back working in less than a day. Obviously, the actual installation time depends on the truck, existing tank arrangement and condition of the installation, but the whole point of the Plug & Play system is to reduce the amount of fabrication and installation work required.

Replace the Rusty Pipework at the Same Time

This is the part we think makes particularly good sense on an older truck. Don’t just put a new pump onto 15-year-old pipework. If the existing pipework is rusty, damaged or heavily corroded, the Masport Plug & Play installation gives you an opportunity to replace the old system rather than continuing to repair it. The result is a much cleaner installation. You’re starting again with a new pump system and new pipework rather than having a brand-new pump connected to a collection of ageing components.
That’s better for reliability and makes future servicing easier.

It’s More Than Just a Pump

One of the advantages of Masport’s Plug & Play systems is that the package includes many of the components required around the pump. For example, the Masport TITAN Plug & Play system includes:

  • 407 CFM vacuum/pressure pump
  • Heavy-duty pump stand
  • Vacuum/pressure gauge
  • Pressure relief valve
  • Vacuum relief valve
  • Scrubber/secondary
  • Stainless-steel inlet filter
  • Oil reservoir
  • Oil separator/muffler
  • Self-aligning gearbox or hydraulic drive
  • Coupling kit

That means you’re not trying to source every individual component and work out how they should fit together.

The system has been designed as a system.

There’s a Range of Systems

Masport has Plug & Play options across a range of pump capacities.

The current range includes systems from the HD4V at 165 CFM, through the HD75V at around 230 CFM, up to larger systems including the VIPER at 350 CFM, TITAN and HYDRA at 407 CFM, MAMBA at 458 CFM and COBRA at 532 CFM.

That gives us options when matching the pump to the truck and tank.

It’s important, though, that the pump is selected based on the actual application.

Bigger isn’t always better.
The pump needs to match the tank size, required vacuum, required pressure, operating speed and the work the truck is actually doing.

Vacuum and Pressure From the Same System

Masport Plug & Play systems are designed for both vacuum and pressure operation.

That makes them suitable for the way most vacuum trucks actually work.

You need vacuum to load the tank.

You need pressure to unload it.

The correct valves, relief equipment, filtration and separation are all important parts of making that system work safely and reliably.

For example, the Masport TITAN Plug & Play system is rated at 407 CFM and is designed for tank sizes from approximately 2,500 to 6,000 gallons, with both vacuum and pressure capability.

Less Fabrication Means Less Hassle

One of the biggest advantages of the Plug & Play concept is reducing the amount of fabrication required.
Anyone who has worked on vacuum trucks knows that fabrication jobs can quickly become complicated.

A bracket doesn’t quite line up.
The pipe doesn’t quite fit.
A fitting is seized.
A section of pipe is too badly corroded to reuse.
Then you’re cutting, welding, modifying and waiting for parts.

A properly selected Plug & Play system removes a lot of that work.
Less fabrication. Less downtime. Less messing around.
And that’s exactly what a working vacuum truck operator wants.

A Good Option for Older Trucks

If you’ve got an older truck that is mechanically sound but the vacuum pump system is becoming unreliable, a Masport Plug & Play system can be a very practical way of extending the useful life of the truck.
You don’t necessarily need to replace the entire vehicle. Instead, you can upgrade one of the most important working systems on it.

You end up with:

  • A new vacuum pump
  • New supporting components
  • New filtration and separation
  • New oiling system
  • New valves and protection
  • New pipework
  • A cleaner installation
  • Easier future maintenance

And potentially the truck back on the road in less than a day.

Why VPNZ?

At VPNZ, we don’t just supply the pump. At VPNZ, we don’t just supply the pump.

We’ll look at:

  • Your existing pump
  • Tank size
  • Required vacuum
  • Required pressure
  • Existing pipework
  • Drive arrangement
  • Available mounting space
  • Hydraulic or gearbox requirements
  • The type of work the truck is doing

Then we can help select the appropriate Masport Plug & Play system.

The aim is simple:

Get the right system, install it properly and get the truck back earning money.

Stop Repairing Rusty Pipework

If your vacuum truck pump is getting old, take a good look at everything around it before deciding what to replace.

If the pipework is rusty, the valves are tired and the filtration system is past its best, replacing just the pump may not be the best long-term solution.

A Masport Plug & Play system gives you the opportunity to replace the ageing pump system with a modern, integrated package.

And because the system is pre-assembled, installation can often be completed in less than a day.

That’s a lot better than having a truck sitting in the workshop for a week while everyone works out how to fabricate the new system.

The Bottom Line

Don’t put a new pump onto an old, rusty system if you don’t have to.

A Masport Plug & Play system gives you the opportunity to replace the pump and the key supporting components at the same time.

You get a properly packaged vacuum/pressure system, less fabrication, easier maintenance and — depending on the truck and installation — the potential to have the job completed in less than a day.

For operators who rely on their vacuum truck to earn money, that’s a pretty big advantage.
